This is our winter newsletter featuring another piece from Jennifer. Jennifer is an extremely talented writer. We love sharing her thoughts and prose! Tim Hoste also added his quarterly update on Michigan Auto No-Fault. Tim has important inside perspective on behalf of our industry. All guardians, clients, case managers, and adjusters will be receiving copies shortly.
The party kicked off with clients and team members enjoying lunch by Lazybones Smokehouse barbecue. Their catering service delivered a delicious spread of smoked turkey, cornbread, coleslaw, macaroni, and dressing. We appreciate Lazybones for providing exceptional food and service every time we need them. After lunch, the clients received their well deserved annual bonus checks. Indeed it has been a busy, yet rewarding year for everyone.
After allowing some time for digestion, clients and team members participated in a mix of fun activities. We enjoyed a Christmas attire contest, karaoke contest (congratulations to Dominique, the back-to-back winner), Bingo, dancing, video games, card games, a holiday themed movie, and creative adult coloring. The blend of activities made it possible for everyone to be involved and entertained.
The holidays would not be the same without a classic Unique Options company Christmas party. A big thank you goes out to the Job Coaches, management team, and ownership for making this a very special event year after year. Most importantly, the event would not be possible without our clients – an endless thank you. Have a very happy, safe, and loving holidays to you all and your families.

After losing their $80 million tax credit this week, the insurance industry continues to try and persuade lawmakers in Lansing to make dangerous reforms to the Assigned Claims Fund. If these reforms and caps go into effect, injured auto accident victims in the Assigned Claims Fund will find themselves without the proper medical and rehabilitative they will require.
Please stop what you are doing and let you State Senator know that you strongly disagree with the proposed caps and reforms to the Assigned Claims Fund. The link below will take you to a website where you can quickly send an email to your Senator.
Please share this information and link with as many people as you can. Together, we can continue to protect the necessary benefits of all catastrophically injured auto accident victims.
In an effort to find additional revenue sources for the state budget, the Michigan House of Representatives voted late last night to repeal a $80 million tax credit that the auto insurance industry has been taking advantage of for the past several years. As talks about this repeal heated up in Lansing, a proposal was made to cap all injured auto accident victims in the Assigned Claims Fund at $275,000 as a "peace offering" to the insurers to compensate them for the loss of this tax credit. The Coalition Protecting Auto No-fault (CPAN), Michigan Brain Injury Providers Council (MBIPC), the Brain Injury Association of Michigan (BIAMI) and countless people who work in the medical and rehabilitation field jumped into action to stop this dangerous proposal and ensure that all victims of catastrophic auto accidents will have access to the necessary medical and rehabilitative care provided under Michigan Auto No-fault.
Fortunately our efforts and persistence paid off and the tax credit was repealed without seeing any cap placed on accident victims in the Assigned Claims Fund.
Unique Options, LLC would like to personally thank all of the State Representatives who heard our message and realized that trying to balance the budget at the expense of auto accident victims is just wrong. Your leadership, compassion, and willingness to do the right thing is greatly appreciated, and will make a tremendous difference in the lives of auto accident victims.
In an effort to find additional revenue sources for the State Budget, the Michigan House of Representatives is considering eliminating an $80 million tax credit the auto insurance industry has been taking advantage of for the past few years. Speaker of the House Kevin Cotter has stated that if this tax credit is removed, auto insurers must be "given" something is return.
Speaker Cotter's "peace offering" to the insurance industry is proposing that all claims in the Assigned Claims Fund be capped at $275,000, instead of the current lifetime care for all reasonable and necessary medical and rehabilitation expenses related to the injuries sustained in the auto accident.
The Assigned Claims Fund was established to ensure that drivers and pedestrians who are hit by an uninsured driver will still have access to the Personal Injury Protection (PIP) benefits provided under Michigan Auto No-Fault. Proposing to cap the medical care and rehabilitation needs of someone who was catastrophically injured by a driver who violated Michigan law and drove without valid insurance only further punishes the accident victim for a situation they had no control over.
While it is important for the State of Michigan to find additional revenue sources to offset a decline in revenue projections, balancing the state budget at the expense of auto accident victims is just wrong. Please take a few moments to contact your State Representative and ask them to oppose any cap on Personal Injury Protection benefits.
This link will take you to a website where you can sign a letter and send it to your State Representative. - http://capwiz.com/biami/home/
